OXFORD’S CLUTTERED STREETS
The Civic Society has produced a report that demonstrates the poor quality of the streetscape in Oxford. It highlights some of the many problems that create an overall impression of clutter and chaos – and, suggests some ways forward.
To give a few examples, there are places where traffic signs obscure views, too many posts obstruct the pavement or street furniture is not maintained.

The overall impression is not worthy of a city with a worldwide reputation for beautiful buildings and high quality of life. At the launch of their ‘Save Our Streets’ campaign, English Heritage chose Oxford to illustrate many of the problems facing Britain’s urban environment.
