Background
Travel behaviour – how we move into and around Oxford - has a fundamental impact on the environment of the city.
It has always been a key focus of Oxford Civic Society which was founded in 1969 to fight damaging plans for inner relief roads.
The Park and Ride scheme – an innovation at the time – was instigated as a result of our actions.
Travel remains a key issue for the future. In 2006, a survey of members identified travel as the most widespread concern. A large majority expressed the view that more emphasis should be placed on encouraging walking and cycling.
Now, the Society is seeking views on the options that face the community as it prepares to meet the Government’s stringent targets for reducing climate changing emissions.
The Society has a long established Transport Sub Committee and a Travel Behaviour working party within our new Environment Committee.
